Our Board of Directors
Le Hayes, Director
Le is the General Manager for the Mojave National Preserve gateway town of Baker, California. He began his 21st year in that position in August of 2011. In 2009 the Desert Bighorn Sheep Society presented him with a life membership for his many years of volunteer work supporting the Desert Bighorn. He is also a volunteer for NOAA which gives him an excuse to leave work and go storm chasing. He is the author of “Pilgrims in the Desert, the Early History of Baker, California and the East Mojave Desert”. Le is active in several organizations which are dedicated to the protection and historical documentation of the Mojave Desert.
Dennis Schramm, Director
Dennis is the former superintendent of Mojave National Preserve, having served in that position for 5 years. He recently retired from a 33 year career with the National Park Service. Dennis grew up in southern Nevada and completed graduate studies in desert botany by studying a mountain range in Death Valley. Dennis has spent over 25 years living in the Mojave Desert ecosystem. He now resides in Lafayette, Colorado with his wife Marcia.
Arthur “Terry” Ackerman, Director
Arthur deWitt “Terry” Ackerman has been involved with entrepreneurial endeavors and sales for most of his career. From 1967-1980 he had a successful career with Home Life of New York where he was a member of the Hall of Fame and a Charter member of the Top of the Round Table.
Sidney Silliman, Director
Sid Silliman is Professor Emeritus of Political Science at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. He is committed to protecting the beauty and biological diversity of the Mojave National Preserve for future generations.
Michael Gordon, Director
Michael Gordon is a professional landscape photographer (http://www.michael-gordon.com) and California native whose passion for exploring California’s deserts is exceeded only by his desire to preserve and protect them for future generations. Michael has served on the Board of Directors for the San Gorgonio Wilderness Association, and his 18-year service as volunteer ranger in the San Gorgonio Wilderness earned him a President’s Gold Volunteer Award. His photographs have been instrumental in the campaigns of The Wilderness Society, Campaign for America’s Wilderness, National Parks Conservation Association, and others.
Charlie Shrimplin, Vice-President
Charlie Shrimplin is a founding member of the Mojave National Preserve Conservancy, and currently serves as vice-president on its board of directors. Charlie is a resident of the Mojave National Preserve, a retired social worker, and a fine art multi-media artist.
David Lamfrom, President
David Lamfrom is honored to serve as the inaugural President of the Mojave National Preserve Conservancy’s board of directors. David lives and works in the California Desert and is the California Desert Program Manager for National Parks Conservation Association.
