Cancelled: MNPC to Host a Campout and Astronomy Night for Educators

Sunset at the Mojave National Preserve's Black Canyon Campground.

UPDATE: We regret that we have to cancel this event due to unforeseen circumstances that will prevent the attendance of our hosts and astronomers.

The Mojave National Preserve Conservancy invites educators and their families to join us for a campout and astronomy night on October 22nd, 2022 at the Mojave National Preserve’s Black Canyon Group and Equestrian Campground. RSVP is required if you are interested in attending, but there is no cost and no obligation if your plans change. RSVPs and questions can be sent to info@mojavepreserve.org .

The campout will provide educators an opportunity to learn more about the Mojave, the Preserve, and how to incorporate the desert into your STEM and Art curriculum. In attendance will be astronomers with high-powered telescopes for night sky viewing (weather permitting), an artist and former artist-in-residence from the Preserve, and desert wildlife experts.

Black Canyon Group and Equestrian Campground is accessible via the Essex Road exit along Interstate 40. You can arrive any time on Saturday, October 22, and there will be an informal hike in the morning of October 23. Please plan to bring your own food and beverages, but if you need to borrow camping gear (tents/sleeping bags), please let us know when you RSVP; we have a limited supply of gear that we can loan out. If this is your first time camping in the desert (or camping, at all), then this is an excellent opportunity to visit!

Please email info@mojavepreserve.org with any questions!
